🐾 Cuddle Wind Puppy Health Warranty

Limited Registration — Pet Quality Only

Cuddle Wind puppies are sold as pet quality only, with limited registration and no breeding rights. We do not guarantee the puppy’s adult size, color, conformation, reproductive ability, ability to potty train, or temperament. Puppies are vet-checked at least twice, will have received their second set of core vaccinations, and will have been dewormed prior to going to their new homes.

⚕️ Health Warranty Overview

We guarantee that your puppy is in good health at the time of sale.

This puppy is covered by a 12-month limited health warranty from the date of purchase against life-threatening, congenital genetic disorders such as:

  • Heart defects (including murmurs graded 4/6 or higher)

  • Lung defects

  • Kidney malformations or defects

Should a covered, life-threatening genetic disorder be diagnosed within the warranty period, and confirmed by both your licensed veterinarian and our veterinarian, we will offer a replacement puppy of equal value, when one becomes available. You may choose to keep the original puppy or return the puppy, but transportation and paperwork transfer costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

❗ Exclusions from This Warranty

This health warranty does not cover the following common but non-life-threatening or non-genetic conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Collapsing trachea

  • Hypoglycemia

  • Umbilical or inguinal hernias

  • Overbites or underbites (malocclusion)

  • Retained baby teeth

  • Undescended testicles

  • Allergic reactions or vaccine sensitivities

  • Behavioral issues or training problems

  • Non-genetic illnesses or injuries acquired after sale

Important:

At Cuddle Wind, we are committed to breeding healthy, well-adjusted puppies. However, due to the complex nature of certain health conditions, the following are excluded from this health warranty, even if they are known to occur in small breeds like Yorkshire Terriers:

Liver Shunt (Portosystemic Shunt)

Liver shunts are abnormal blood vessels that bypass the liver, preventing it from properly filtering toxins from the bloodstream. This condition can result in poor growth, neurological symptoms, and life-threatening complications if not treated.

While liver shunts can have a genetic component, current veterinary research has not identified a definitive, testable genetic marker in most breeds. In addition, some cases may occur due to developmental factors during pregnancy or early life, not heredity.

At Cuddle Wind, we take responsible measures to reduce the risk of liver shunt by:

  • Selecting breeding dogs with no clinical signs of liver issues.

  • Offering puppies from lines that have not shown repeated incidents of liver shunt.

However, a puppy may still develop a liver shunt even when both parents are completely healthy. Because this condition is not fully preventable or predictable, we do not include liver shunt under this health warranty.

Patellar Luxation

Patellar luxation is a condition where the kneecap (patella) slips out of its normal position, usually due to shallow grooves in the femur. It is common in small breeds, including Yorkies, and can range from mild (Grade 1) to severe (Grade 4).

While there may be a hereditary tendency, patellar luxation is strongly influenced by environmental and lifestyle factors, such as:

  • Improper flooring (e.g., slippery surfaces like tile or hardwood)

  • Jumping on and off furniture

  • Excessive weight gain or poor muscle development

  • Injury or trauma during growth

Even if breeding dogs are free of luxation and cleared by a veterinarian, a puppy can still develop this condition later in life due to factors beyond the breeder's control. For this reason, patellar luxation is not covered under this health warranty.

We encourage buyers to:

  • Provide non-slip flooring or area rugs

  • Avoid letting puppies jump off high furniture

  • Maintain proper weight and muscle tone

  • Follow up with routine veterinary care and joint supplements as recommended

By excluding these conditions from the health warranty, we are not avoiding responsibility but rather being transparent and realistic about what can and cannot be controlled through breeding. We are always happy to answer questions and support our puppy families with preventive care guidance and veterinary referrals.

🩺 Veterinary Check Requirement

To keep this health warranty valid, you must have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 3 business days of taking possession. If your veterinarian identifies a life-threatening congenital defect at that time, you may return the puppy within 5 business days for a replacement (when available). All vet documentation must be on clinic letterhead.

Failure to complete this initial vet exam within 3 business days will void this warranty.

🦠 Contagious Disease Clause (10-Day Coverage)

If your licensed vet diagnoses a contagious or infectious disease that was present at the time of sale within 10 days of purchase, you may return the puppy for a replacement (when available). If you choose to keep the puppy, we will reimburse up to $100 in treatment costs upon submission of vet documentation and proof of expenses. Diagnosis must be made within 10 days, and the puppy returned (if applicable) within 2 business days of diagnosis.

🚫 No Breeding – Spay/Neuter Requirement

All Cuddle Wind puppies are sold on limited registration and are required to be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. Any attempt to breed your puppy will void this health warranty.

🕊️ In Case of Death

If your puppy passes away within the 12-month warranty period due to a verified, congenital defect, a replacement puppy of like value will be provided (when available). You must:

  • Notify us within 2 business days of the death

  • Provide a licensed veterinarian’s written diagnosis and cause of death

  • Show proof that the puppy was current on all core vaccines and routine vet care

  • Provide an autopsy report (if requested) at your expense

  • Submit to DNA testing (if requested) to confirm lineage

If the autopsy confirms a congenital defect, we will also reimburse the cost of the autopsy and DNA test.

📄 Final Terms

This warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original buyer. We are not responsible for veterinary bills beyond those specifically covered in this warranty. All sales are final.

Thank you for choosing Cuddle Wind. We are committed to raising healthy, happy companions and are always available to support you after your puppy goes home.
